Self-Reflection

Reflecting on My Writing Journey

About Me

My name is Abi and I currently work as a Reptile Rehabilitator. I don't make any money off the rescues I take in, I do it because it is solely my passion. I have been working with reptiles for over 10 years, and I have focused heavily on rehabilitation in the past 2 years. I believe my voice is for those that don't have it; the neglected and abused reptiles that go so unnoticed. In the year of 2025 alone, I rescued over 100 abused and neglected animals that I have found amazing, loving homes for. Feel free to browse through my ePortfolio. Self Reflection

Over the course of this semester, my writing has improved greatly. First, I was dealing with some simple grammatical errors and run-on sentencing. After being able to correct myself, I started feeling more comfortable expanding my vocabulary. I felt that especially my conclusions were very weak, and I was able to learn how to write the strongest and longest conclusion I could. I felt it was necessary to make these corrections, because grammar and proper sentence structures are the first key component to good writing. The conclusion can be the most important section of writing a paper, because it can reinforce the main point as well as remind the reader of the key takeaways from the excerpt. This course connected deeply with my major, as I was allowed to express my creative freedom greatly. I am a zoology and science major, so I was able to focus on issues that pertained to my major. I struggled deeply with correlation of common knowledge, since my common knowledge is so much different than others now that I am farther down my path of education. I felt like I corrected these issues by doing more research into my field, and it allowed my information to not only flow smoother, but sound more educated. I was also able to make great rhetorical appeals through this course, and really learn to hone my skills by balancing emotion, ethics, and logic into informative and unbiased work. Although some essays required more of a drive an opinion, I was able to use the skills to the best of my ability. Since I am so passionate about animals and the natural world around me, it allowed me to explore different viewpoints others may have about issues like development growth, and drilling for oil which is a necessary function in our every day world. I believe I now have a different perspective not only from writing, but being able to see outside of my own opinions and personal views.
